BookStack on your own server, in one click.
Keep your team's documentation, how-tos and knowledge base in BookStack, on a server you own. ServerAvatar runs it in Docker with its own MariaDB and sets up the passwords, storage and HTTPS for you.
- BookStack + MariaDB
- HTTPS on its own
- Your server, your docs
Section 01What is BookStack
What is BookStack?
BookStack is an open-source wiki for documentation. It sorts everything like a library: shelves hold books, books hold chapters, and chapters hold pages, so anyone can find their way around.
Writing is simple, with a visual editor or Markdown, and every change is kept as a revision. Running it on your own server keeps internal docs, passwords and processes inside your company.
- Free and open source (MIT)
- Shelves, books, chapters and pages
- Visual editor or Markdown

Section 03Requirements
What you need
A fresh Ubuntu server you can log in to as root. The installer checks all of this before it changes anything.
| Requirement | BookStack on Docker |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Ubuntu 24.04 or 26.04 LTS (x86-64) |
| CPU | 1 core or more |
| RAM | 1 GB or more |
| Disk | 10 GB or more (25 GB recommended) |
| Containers | BookStack 26.09 + MariaDB 11.4 |
| Ports | 80 and 443 open |
BookStack sets no CPU or RAM minimum; 1 GB is Ubuntu's minimum for a server. Disk: about 7 GB is in use once the panel and BookStack are installed on our test server; 25 GB is Ubuntu's recommendation.
Section 04Install
